Vintage Motorcycles and Vintage Motorcycle Parts

Vintage motorcycles are valued for their age, their beauty, and the history behind them and so are the vintage motorcycle parts to restore one. Unless the bike is or was owned by a meticulous individual it may require restoration. The problem is that there is a finite supply of these vintage motorcycle parts as the models are no longer available. So there is a significant market for these parts.

Vintage motorcycle parts that are sought after to restore a bike to its original condition can be expensive. Therefore the sale of rare motorcycle parts can be extremely lucrative for their owner. So where do you find these parts and where do they come from?

American’s value the personal rights of the individual citizen including the right to own personal property. This means that there are a lot of collectors and just like all collectors if the price is right, just about anything is for sale.

Anywhere you find antiques you can find these parts. Old estate auctions, flee markets, and antique malls. The problem is that this method of finding them can be extremely time consuming and often not very productive. So before you head out on your journey you should do your research. Motorcycle repair shops are good resources as they are constantly seeking parts, motorcycle collectors are another valuable source of information. Another great resource is the internet which brings together basically all people with a similar interest in the form of forums, bulletin boards, and blogs. If there is any part you are looking for you have the best chance of finding it on the internet.

When restoring anything of value you may have to purchase more than just that one part because the owner is selling the part you need as part of a package deal. Another great place to look for outdated motorcycle parts is online auctions. Hopefully this gives you a start as you seek to restore that piece of American freedom. In the end it is usually worth it. You end up owning a rare piece of beauty that everyone admires and wished they owned.

Just remember when someone makes you an offer you can’t refuse you can always build another one. And if the bike you own is so rare that it would be almost impossible to find another one to restore, then maybe, just maybe there is no amount of money you should accept under any circumstances. I sold a classic many years ago for more than it was worth and I have thought about it a million times over and over again. I never should have sold it, the money is gone now and so is the bike.
