Does anyone know the best way to hook up a 4channel amp to run 5 speakers,, the 5th meaning a sub,little space
its going on a motorcycle and i have very little space ,, i have now a 4channel amp ( alpine) ,, 2 channels are powing the front and rear speakers and the other 2 channels are bridged to power a 8″ bazooka tube ,, i don’t have the space for a 5 channel amp,and because its going on a bike i don’t have the power to run 2 or more amps,,i have on the bike polk audio componets front and rear ,alpine 4channel amp,and a 8″bazooka base tube,,.
It sounds like you have a pretty good plan. Just run the front 2 channels to the high range speakers. Your amp should be 2 ohm stable. and the speakers should be 4 ohms. Run 2 speakers from the left front and 2 speakers from the right front in parallel. Then, bridge the back 2 channels to the sub. Look in the owners manual to find the proper way to bridge the amp. You’ll lose the fader with this configuration. But, it may be your best bet. You could also see if the amp is “tri-mode” stable. In this case you would wire all of the high range speakers off of their own channel. and wire the sub across the rear channels. Again, check the owners manual. The only drawback to this is that you lose all of the on board crossover adjustments. I guess it really depends on what you want to sacrifice..
