Motorcycle Design Programs
how do i go about working with a company who designs and builds choppers?
i’m going to school for engineering, and using autocad, a 2d program, along with solidworks and inventor, which are 3d programs, i have a few years of welding and pipe-fitting experience too. I love riding harleys and choppers. When i graduate, i want to design motorcycles, mainly choppers, i’m wondering how would i go about working with a shop that does that? if anyone knows any good shops please let me know, i’m from South Carolina.
The short answer is to apply with them. If you are talking about working for a custom shop (like Orange County Choppers) it will not be easy. Most importantly, if you are not designing and building bikes now, start. If your engineering school is worth the tuition you should also be building them. Short of the Victory frame, motorcycles have been built out of the same basic parts for over a century. If you do not know the physics of motorcycles, learn them. I will tell you up front that choppers are not something that are “Designed”, they are works of art built out of motorcycle parts. If you do not have an understanding of symmetry, design, color, and how the mechanics and physics work together, then you are nothing more than a doodler who uses a computer and likes to ride. Takes a lot to be a biker, more to be a bike builder, even more still to be successful at it.
