laptop access to internet in europe ?
I am a photographer and have been told that it is now possible to connect to the internet via modern laptops to enable me to send media footage back to my pc via the internet, so i would like to know if this is true and 1 how much would it cost and do I need a special sim card 2 is there a map of available areas of reception in europe 3 which is the best laptop for this as I travel on a motorcycle and need a 10 inch one, bit of a dinosaur sorry !
Last summer I spent 3 weeks in the UK and 3 weeks on the island of Crete, Greece. The UK was easy to connect to the internet, since iw as staying with family who had DSL. All I needed to do there was connect my ethernet port, just as I would in the US, or sometimes I used the wireless capabilities of my laptop.
I Greece it was a little more difficult to find the access points. They have a lot of “Internet cafe” places, but most are setup so that you can use their computers to check your email, or play internet games. It was much more difficult to find places that would let me plug into their ethernet network. However, when I did find those places, the access was simple, though slower than the DSl speeds we get in the US. Other parts of Europe should be easier and faster.
Cost was about 2 Euros per hr, or about $3.50.
Basically, if you can connect your laptop to a wireless access point in the US, or plug into an ethernet cable in the US, you’re all set to go. There’s nothing different in Europe.
