Motorcycle Suspension Tuning Book

Thoughts on MMI (Motorcycle Mechanics Institute)?
Hi all, I have been considering going to MMI, but am not sure if it’s the right school for me… I don’t want to graduate and work as a tech, I want my own shop! Right now I work with sport bikes, buy them wrecked and rebuild them… But I do it all by sitting in the shop for hours studying a dealer book and trying to figure it out and want to know what I am doing so I can get things done faster! I have been told MMI teaches you just the bare basics (oil changes and tune ups…) but I already know how to do all that! So if you’ve been, did the school teach you enough that you could get out there and start your own shop?? Like can you swap frames and work on engines? How about suspension?
Thanks!
I dont know if you can go out and start your own shop right away. I graduated MMI in 2007 for harley davidson. Now granted i didnt take any of the sport bike sections. But we had a 3 week class where all we did was tear apart engines and trannys for the sportsters and big twins and also the transmissions that went with them and learn about every piece. There isnt alot of trouble shooting at MMI but if your looking to speed up getting something apart and back together it would definatly do that for you. They teach you how to troubleshoot electrical problems throughout the whole bike. You do a couple engine rnrs fore replacement and rebuilds. rebuilding brake calipers. They teach you how to tune in a bike using a race tuner or power commander on a dynojet and performance accessories but only by the manufacture now by aftermarket companies. But granted i think they do teach you more then the bare basics. yes they do show you how to change tires and all that because thats the point. Yes there will be bikes that come in that have a knocking noise and all that but most will be for services or brake pads or minor just major tune up stuff. but they also teach you somewhat to do in a more major situation. I think it would be good to go to as a starting block to owning your own shop though
