Motorcycle Touring Books Bike
i’m confused about the value of a Suzuki Katana 600cc motorcycle?!?
I know a guy that is selling his 99 Katana 600 for $2700. It’s black, has 5000 miles, a Yoshi exhaust pipe, a clean title and is in PERFECT shiny sparkling condition, no scratches. I checked Kelly Blue Book and NADA values and a 99 Katana with 30,000 miles on it is valued at over $3,000! So naturally this seems like a VERY good deal on paper. But, I just went on ebay and looked at the Katanas for sale, and there are 2001’s in the same condition for the same price! I even saw a 2004 Katana with a Buy It Now for only a few hundred dollars more. Why is this?!? Why would everyone be selling them for so much LESS than they are deemed worthy? People generally sell Sport and Sport Touring bikes for WAYYYYY over what they are worth. I regularly see GSX-R’s, Ninjas, R6’s, and CBR’s that sell on ebay and craigslist for even $1500 MORE than their Kelly Blue Book value. What’s going on?

Motorcycles or cars; Kelly Blue Book, NADA, Edmonds, Black Book, are only guides for the informed to become up to date, and not a pricing service. The books never buy anything! So, the person with the cash, in agreement with the person trying to sell, set the price. Automobiles and trucks sold at auction provide the data to the ‘BOOKS’, not the other way around. With motorcycles there is little auction activity so the books rely on input from dealers to determine the value of bikes. These values are typically inflated to benefit the dealer with regard to profit and financing from uniformed banks. Values change with market conditions, seasons, and the weather. To determine what your bike is worth find a buyer with the money and the desire. In this case YOU are that buyer. You determine how much money you are willing to exchange for the MC in question. Never be swayed by items listed for sale. Items sold are the true value exposers.
