Motorcycle Transportation Systems
Moving to RAF Lakenheath, want to know good communities to live in.?
We want to live somewhere that has a good transportation system (my DH will be using his motorcycle for work but I will be walking) and that also has shopping within walking distance. We also prefer renting homes versus apartments. We would also like to be somewhere between RAFs Lakenheath and Mildenhall.
Lakenheath and Mildenhall are only 5 miles apart and there is nothing but fields between them, so you can’t live directly between the two.
When you say you will be walking, do you mean you need to be within walking distance of the bases, or just general amenities? I’m guessing you don’t mean you need to walk to the bases.
You are moving to one of the most beautiful parts of England and there are a number of very nice towns nearby, including:
Newmarket – 13 miles to Lakenheath
Ely – 12 miles
Bury St. Edmunds – 12 miles
Thetford – 8 miles
These are all reasonably large towns so you won’t have any trouble finding shops, and there are buses to get around within town. The nearest city is Cambridge, which you can easily reach by train from any of these towns in 20-40 minutes. Also from Cambridge you can get trains to London which take about 40 minutes.
