basic motorcycle skills
What do I need to know before buying my first motorcycle?

I just got my motorcycle license and I’m planning to get a motorcycle soon. My only experience with a motorcycle was the two day Basic Riders Course.

What do I need to know before purchasing a motorcycle? Which motorcycle should I get?
Also, how can I prepare for the streets with my skill level?

Any useful advice is welcome!
Thanks!

Drive carefully, do not ever think that the cars see you, don’t try to show off. Other than that you just gotta learn as you go. Stay out of heavy traffic/busy streets until you have more experience. If you can, ride in rural areas for a while instead of the city. Give yourself a chance to get used to it where there isn’t much traffic. Buy the biggest best bike you can afford. If you get a small bike you will quickly out grow it yet be stuck with it. Road conditions and other traffic are the main things you need to learn about and as I said before, those lessons are the same no matter what bike you have between your legs at the time. Just my opinion, but I don’t remember when I was learning too well, it was a long time ago. If you feel nervous like you are not really in control, pull over and calm down. Don’t ride on wet streets until you are ready. Back into parking places. Ride in the left part of the lane except if you are on the interstate in the passing lane ride in the right part of the lane so somebody going faster doesn’t think he can squeeze you into the median strip. Watch for people turning left in front of you. They don’t see you. Intersections always have loose gravel in them and gravel is slippery. Just because you are sitting on a lot of power doesn’t mean you have to use it.
