Motorcycle Tours
Help with planning a motorcycle tour in USA?
My Boyfriend and I are thinking of planning a 2 week trip in North America and touring on a hired bike. We are from the UK and have never been to the USA before but it’s something we’ve decided we have to do!
We are interested in seeing California, Arizona, Nevada or possibly heading south to Mexico. There are so many websites, books and tour companies so we can’t decide what option to go for. Has anyone done it before with a tour company? Or can anyone recommend a good book or websites?

I live in Arizona and have been motorcycling for 15 years. I never did anything with any tour company, as I prefer to ride alone or with a small group of friends.
The California coast is amazing to ride. Planning it so the sun is out of your eyes is a good idea. There are long boring desert rides between California and Nevada or Arizona. I truly don’t think they are worth your time and I wish I never had to drive them again. I’d pick Vegas over Phoenix just to experince the freak show of a city if you never have. Continuing on to Grand Canyon may be nice, too.
Mexico is too scary to drive across the border, especially on a motorcycle. I love Baja, but the border towns and the recent kidnappings and attacks on tourists really make it not worth the risk.
You may narrow down your options by deciding what sort of bike you prefer to ride. I would pick a BMW or a Japanese touring bike over a Harley any day of the week, but some people want the “American” experience of going numb from vibration on a poorly engineered bike.
