Are Motorcycle gloves illegal anywhere in the USA?
Sap gloves, which are gloves containing steel-shot designed to knock people out, are illegal in many states. Motorcycle gloves look just as nasty, some of them even having steel knuckle plates. I presume courts would consider them a deadly weapon just as readily as they would Sap gloves… yet, I think they’re perfectly legal. Am I wrong?
I’ve never heard of any motorcycle gloves having steel plates in the knuckles. Everything I’ve seen uses plastic.
They aren’t illegal because they are designed to protect a rider not knock people out. I’m sure if someone went to court and the lawyers pointed out that the person used motorcycle gloves in a fight, they might classify them as a weapon for that instance but not in general. Items that are made illegal are generally those that have no other useful purpose other than to cause harm like the Sap gloves or brass knuckles. You can harm or kill someone pretty easily with a shovel but they are perfectly legal. For that matter you can kill someone very easily with a gun but they are legal too.
